Qb Rankings I do them every year. Every year there’s blowback. For those of you who have blowback this wasn’t done on a whim I have tried to watch at least 2 games for every QB on this list. It’s taken the past few months using my rare free Sunday to comb through game pass. So here they are, my QB ranking heading into 2109. These are rankings based on last years performance and projecting into the future. The first is purely opinion with very little context to back it up. So let’s roll.
(Not ranked are the rookie QB’s and Jimmy G, just not enough tape to develop a take. No Miami QB’s on this list either as I’m only ranking starters and don’t know who will start yet.)
1-5
Patrick Mahomes
Russell Wilson
Aaron Rodgers
Baker Mayfield
Carson Wentz
Everyone in this category moves up a slot simply because Andrew Luck suddenly retired and I had him at four. Baker Mayfield breaks this group simply because in my opinion he looked like a game changing QB down the stretch last year whose biggest weakness was the occasional lapse of judgement in the pocket.
6-10
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Phillip Rivers
Matt Ryan
Deshaun Watson
Drew Brees sit’s this low because simply put, down the stretch he could not throw outside the numbers or more than 35 yards down the field. Sure you could make the same argument against Brady, the difference, the Pats offense has evolved down the stretch the Saints did not.
11-15
Ben Roethlisberger
Matthew Stafford
Sam Darnold
Jared Goff
Kirk Cousins
I admit, Ben might be a little to low. I just need to see him in this new look offense before I completely buy in but after week 3 when I do these rankings again I would not be at all surprised if he was scratching at the top 5.
16-20
Cam Newton
Nick Foles
Dak Prescott
Jameis Winston
Josh Allen
I am high on Jameis Winston. I just am. Looked completely different in the pre season and down the stretch and who knows maybe BA can fix those pesky turnovers. To me Josh Allen and Mitchell Trubisky are more or less the same passer. So get off my back Bears fans because I absolutely love Josh Allen.
21-24
Mitchell Trubisky
Lamar Jackson
Marcus Mariota
Andy Dalton
Here it is. The good news for the 2019 NFL season, there are only three to five truly “bad” Quarterbacks. As a Broncos fan, Flacco is down here just because I don’t know what to expect.
25-27
Joe Flacco
Derek Carr
Eli Manning
