Division Previews continue on. Looking now at how the AFC East Will Play Out. The AFC West next week. Enjoy!
Bills 12-5
As stated in my biggest questions blog, very few questions about this Bills unit. In a loaded AFC, this might be the best roster from front to back. You add Von Miller as a pass rusher for a playoff run and you get deeper at the corner because last year it cost you a shot at the title game. Plus, a nice added luxury to add a running back in the second round. Gabriel Davis seems like a player primed for a break-out year and perhaps a jump to superstardom. Josh Allen, went back and watched some of his tape from last year, towards the end especially, basically flawless QB play. He’s gaining control of the offense and you can see it. Sure, you lose Brian Daboll but I trust Allen enough at this point in his career that he can be a great signal caller no matter the coach. It’s time to circle the wagons in Western New York because other than the Bills I’m just not sure whose stopping this roster.
Jets 10-7
Here is the cocktail recipe for the Jets to be a ten-win team this year. Let’s call this drink, Gang Green Delight.
First off, your base liquor. 2 Parts being a top ten defense: From front to back, this team is meant to be a defensive force. You get healthy Carl Lawson, you get healthy CJ Mosley, you add Sauce Gardner at corner, you have competent pieces in Quinnen Williams up front and Lemarcus Joyner in the back.
Then you back it up with 2 parts great coaching (this is a strong drink): Robert Saleh is a great NFL head coach, he has a consistent track record of turning defenses into top ten units. This is a defense tailored directly to what Saleh does well, the Jets are set up to have immediate success defensively this year because of it.
This is the secret ingredient; 1 part Zach Wilson is not a total disaster: This is a big if. However, if you look at Wilson’s college resume, he took a massive leap forward in year two at BYU. He’s taken the same care this off-season to work on his game according to numerous reports. Things will get easier for Wilson; he also has a long leash because if things go sideways early there is no one to dig him out of a ditch but himself. Even if you start 0-3 you can get to ten wins.
Finally the cover-up ingredient, because I love a girly drink, 2 parts you play in the AFC East. The Patriots are not some juggernaut, and neither are the Dolphins, in fact, the Dolphins have the same problem you have, they don’t know whether Tua pans out or not. So there you have it, a recipe to get the Jets to ten wins, I really can see it.
Dolphins 9-8
If Tua pans out, they will light up the conference. They have an offensive wunderkind at head coach, have added Tyreek Hill and strengthened the O Line, not to mention they have one of the best cornerback duos in the league. That said, as you can see by the record prediction I don’t really believe in Tua and Teddy Bridgewater isn’t taking this team much further either. Only time will tell though, but the Dolphins will have a crystal clear idea of what they need to do to become a contender by mid-October.
Patriots 7-10
I don’t like this Pats team. It’s an aging secondary in a pass-happy conference, they did virtually nothing to help Mac Jones get explosive weapons (I mean I guess Devante Parker but come on guys), and they currently don’t have an OC. If they do have an OC it’s Matt Patricia, you do not want Matt Patricia running your offense in 2022. Editor’s note: This will look extremely stupid by mid-November when the Patriots are a six-win team fighting for a division lead. HOWEVAH, on paper this roster just doesn’t look like it’s going to be a factor in the loaded AFC.
