Eagles
BIggest Question: How good can Jalen Hurts be? This is the question for the Eagles because aside from cornerback, and frankly even that has been shored up by the addition of James Bradberry, the Eagles just don’t have that many questions. If Jalen Hurts can play like a top ten NFL starting QB the Eagles will be Super Bowl contenders. Whether he can bring his game to that level is yet to be seen. The young passer has had some exciting moments in his first few years in the season and has shown the ability to be a great NFL passer but has far too often had frustrating and head-scratching starts, such as last year against the Giants when he was ruined by turnovers. Still, the good has been there for Hurts, what is the ceiling of the young passer?
Commanders
Biggest Question: Can a dreadful secondary improve? Kendall Fuller (who had an up and down season), William Jackson the third and Benjamin St- Juste are the cornerbacks for this team. Washington had some of the worst metrics against the pass last season and this secondary group doesn’t lead you to think much differently about them. It looks like once again it may be hard to stop passing attacks for this team. Meanwhile, massive questions remain at linebacker as draft crush Jamin Davis did not deliver on the hype in year one. Davis must get much better quickly if the defense is to take a step forward. This defense looks, on paper, worse than it did last year and last year by Ron Rivera standards was a massive failure.
Cowboys
Biggest Question: Do the Cowboys have the weapons to match up with the Eagles? Let’s take the Dak Prescott question out of the picture (the question being whether Prescott is still a top ten NFL passer), and look simply at his weapons. Amari Cooper is gone, Michael Gallup is dealing with a knee injury and may not be ready to go in week 1, Jalen Tolbert is a rookie and CeeDee Lamb has never had to carry the WR1 title at the pro level. I have no doubts in Lamb, the wideout is a certified NFL star that is going to have a big year being Prescott’s number one choice at wideout. The issue I see emerging is that the depth behind Lamb is either injured or unproven. Dalton Schultz at tight end had a marvelous end to 2021 but can he carry that over and be a consistently dominant tight end in 2022? That is yet to be seen. Not to mention the left side of the Cowboys line and the interior look brand new. A lot of questions surround America’s team going into the season.
Giants
Biggest Question: Can Brian Daboll steady the ship? The Giants, as always have fantastic weapons. The question remains can Daniel Jones get them the ball and can they stay healthy? The answer to those questions is almost always no, if Daboll can keep the Giants competitive in year one, keep them from being blown out week to week and somehow scrounge 6 wins in the process, that would be a massive win in year one for the first time head coach.
