With the news that Jimmy Garappolo will most likely not be traded the NFL QB carousal starts spinning. So how will the chips fall? The teams in need of a QB are: Cleveland, San Fransisco, Chicago, New York Jets, and Denver Broncos. The teams with QBs to give: Dallas and Washington.
Cleveland Browns: Draft a QB. The Browns with the option no longer available to trade for Jimmy Garappolo, supposedly (Belichick may just be driving the price up), there best option is to draft a QB. With the 12th pick the Browns will have one shot at a Qb assuming the Jets and Niners take one. Or you can risk Myles Garett going to Sanfransisco and take a Qb number 1 overall.
San Francisco 49ers: AJ Mcaaron. The Bengals backup Qb with Jimmy G out of the picture is now in more demand than ever. I wouldn’t believe for a second that Washington gives up its franchise Qb even if there offered the Second Pick. Mcaaron is a good option for Shannahans offense and is from all reports all in. He could develop into a nice middle of the road Quarterback as a band aid, or he could be much more.
Chicago Bears: Tony Romo. Dallas gets a first rounder and gives up there first rounder and Romo to the Bears. Romo’s homecoming is not what people expect will happen but it makes sense. If you get Romo into Chicago, you can probably bring Alshon Jeffery back for a reduced rate. Then it becomes Chicago’s goal this offseason to load up on offense. The defense is there for the Bears you put in one or two more weapons they become contenders.
New York Jets: Draft a QB: Everyone connects an RB to the Jets but they’re impatient. They need a QB now! So you take not one but two Quarterbacks in the draft.
Denver Broncos: Nothing. Take the Broncos out of this QB discussion. They have two guys who are under 25 and could end up being two very good NFL Quarterbacks. If I had to guess who starts next year I would say its probably Paxton Lynch. I disagree with this personally Siemian had a great year behind a terrible offensive line. Siemian was Kubiaks guy and with Gary out in Denver. Vance Joeseph seems eager to start a new era.
So who are the winners and losers of these deals. Winners, the biggest winner is obviously Chicago who become an automatic playoff threat with Romo onboard. Kyle Shannahan is a big winner, AJ Mcaaron is just the guy to build his offense around and he doesn’t have to worry about a rookie Qb being a bust and can use his first round pick for one of the many other roster holes the niners have. Denver isn’t as big of a winner but they still get a pretty good deal. You can now use your best draft pick in years to up the offensive line. The biggest losers are obviously the Browns and Jets. Wait until next year starts early for the Jets and maybe Hue Jackson does something with a rookie QB. Well did you consider Mcaaron used to work with Jackson in Cincinnati? he could go to Cleveland. Of course I did genius! You really think the Bengals are going to trade within their division though? No of course not. So in the end this NFL offseason is looking to be a pretty boring one. Only 6 more months until football.
