A Dispatch From The Sports Desk: NBA Check In, The Top Four Seeds For March, and USA Canada.

Quiet week in sports but a few things to attack from the sports desk.

International Hockey Is Back

It’s nice to have this back. Nice to see the best teams from the best countries playing hockey against each other. It’s sort of stupid that now the rivalry with Canada is an actual geo political rivalry because the ethos of the President’s foreign policy plan these days is, what if we made the cold war again, but we were stupid and we had it with Canada?

Saturday night the Americans will be the villains, and for good reason. Just sucks to be a normal American during this time, I love Canada, if things get really bad here that’s probably where I want to go. Just wish our neighbors to the north would understand that a large swath of America vehemently disagrees with what’s going on right now.

As far as the hockey goes, these are the two best teams in this tournament and this is a good litmus test for the United States, can you keep up with Canada? I made the boneheaded decision of doing a valentines dinner during the game but I may bring the Ipad and really just have a great time, me and my lady at a fancy restaurant watching hockey.

My Personal Top 16 For March Madness

First bracket reveal drops on Saturday. Here’s how I think it shakes out.

1 seeds

Auburn

Alabama

Duke

Florida

2 seeds

Tennessee

Houston

Purdue

St. Johns

3 seeds

Iowa State

Texas AM

Michigan State

Texas Tech

4 seeds

Arizona

Kentucky

Ole Miss

Wisconsin

At The All Star Break, and as someone who doesn’t watch the NBA, 5 NBA teams that can win the title.

Boston Celtics

Here’s a common theme with all of these, you have a top five NBA player on your roster, you play solid defense, you shoot the three well. You do all those things and you are a contender. For as much hate as he gets it is hard to not see Jason Tatum as a top five NBA guy right now. So in fact, here we go, bonus heading and interlude, top 5 current NBA players.

In no order.

  1. Jokic
  2. Luka
  3. SGA
  4. Jason Tatum
  5. Giannis

The next five

  1. Anthony Edwards
  2. KD
  3. Devin Booker
  4. Jalen Brunson
  5. Donovan Mitchell
  6. Honorable 6 spot: Wemby

Oklahoma City Thunder

Shai Gilgeous Alexander is a threat to score anywhere on the floor and they have maybe the deepest roster in the league. They also guard the kids, so yeah I think they are a pretty easy title contender.

Denver Nuggets

Jokic should be the MVP again, probably won’t be because voters are lazy, he’s got another shot here to win a title. Jamal Murray dropped 50 a few nights ago, stay hot and this team can play with anyone in the West.

Cleveland Cavaliers

A lot of scorers, a dynamic offensive superstar in Donovan Mitchell, recipe for a deep run. IF and this is a massive if, IF they can play some defense.

Los Angeles Lakers

This is a very casual take I know but hey man if Luka gets hot, and LeBron gets him to play some more defense and those two elite creators just create for each other. I mean why not man. Luka can absolutely drag that washed king to another title, and honestly as a sicko whose just looking to disparage LeBron’s legacy any chance he can get, hell yeah man that sounds good I’m rooting for that, go Lakers!

A Nice Weekend Ahead In CBB

Auburn Alabama, 1 v 2, Bama rivalry, very sick, very excited.

Arkansas Texas AM, can Cal play himself off the bubble a bit with a big time road win? If not, like why are you paying him all this money? Texas AM cannot score to save their lives, beat them.

Wisconsin Purdue, battle of the big ten and hey maybe watch Brayden Smith, the best point guard in the country.

Houston Arizona, nice little Tommy Lloyd legacy game. Every time I think he’s gonna get a career defining win this year though I’m wrong, so Houston big could be the move.

Creighton St. John’s, tasty little Big East afternoon tilt.

Utah State New Mexico, a chance for the Aggies to get some redemption but the pit is a tough spot.
