I am engaged in a battle for my life. I have embarked, against my better judgement, in a high stakes fantasy auction league. Now if you have read this blog before you know we don’t really talk about fantasy here. This year though is different. I need to prep. I need to get out in front of this league and find a way to not crash and burn into last place. So we are going to look at Fantasy Football Goobers wonderful auction rankings. Critique them and give some analysis as well. Follow along. Check them out for yourself at https://fantasyfootballgoobers.com/rankings. So today we start with tier 1 fantasy wide receivers.
The Tier
Deandre Hopkins $60
Devante Adams $60
Julio Jones $58
Tyreek Hill $55
Michael Thomas $55
Knee Jerk Reaction
Obviously, these rankings were written before all the crazy Tyreek Hill stuff went down. There is no way in hell I would call him a tier one wideout now. There’s a chance he goes to jail within the year. So the replacement I would have for Hill and for an aging Julio Jones would be at 3, Odell Beckham Junior. Goobers currently has Beckham as a tier 2 WR which I think is a tad insane. I get he has competition from Jarvis Landry, Antonio Callaway, Rashad Higgins and David Njoku but I don’t care he is a must have guy. Odell’s Numbers with Eli were insane and Eli is a washed terrible QB. Now he gets paired with arguably one of the best young QB’s in the league. Odell is having a career year. That means 110+ receptions, 20+ Touchdowns and 1,500+ yards. This is bold I know but I would not be shocked if we see 2,000 yards and 35 touchdowns from Odell alone. This guy is a must have and needs to be in the top tier. Be willing to spend $55 on him.
Home Run
Deandre Hopkins obviously. He has no real competition in Houston and rarely deals with injuries. I think spending $60 for a wide out is risky. Just because the position scarcity is so minimal. I would rather spend that money on an Elite RB or TE. Outside of the price though there is little argument to be made against Hopkins at 1.
Sleeper
Michael Thomas. The guy is just insanely consistent and is quietly maybe the best receiver in the NFC now. There is a tiny bit of concern for me though with Drew Brees, he did not look good down the stretch last year on tape, especially on deep balls. Where Thomas makes his money.
Check back in later this week for a break down of tier 2.
