Skyline high school lost their second straight game at home on Wednesday. The Eagles lost to the Brighton Bengals 62-50 after suffering a tough loss against the Highland Rams on Tuesday night. The Eagles were hampered by another lack luster shooting performance outside of Nifai Tonga and Andrew Clark, who shined in the paint for the second straight night. However there combined efforts were not enough to out duel Brighton’s Tate Weichers who put up 23 points and Cam Krystoviak who dropped 18 on the Eagles.
Tonga dropped 25 points and 6 threes in the game but was not happy about his night. “I could score 0 points and be happy as long as we got the W so I would say its bitter sweet” Tonga was certainly not the problem for this Skyline team that is developing a startling trend. Instead of having a team where each player drops a double digit point night or close to it, this offense seems to be controlled by a different player every night.
The common denominator in both of these losses? Michael Vorwaller has scored a combined 6 points in both games. “We have to be more crisp on offense and be more consistent on defense, I need to move the ball a little bit more and we need to take the higher percentage shots to help us win the game” said Vorwaller who sounded like a man defeated after the game.
Teams struggle in pre division games that’s normal and not a problem. What Skyline must do is hit the film room over the next week and figure out why the offense is struggling as much as they are. Ball movement is definitely a big part of it but another problem is passing up on open shots. The decision making of this team has to improve drastically over the next week if they want to challenge an East team that puts up points in a hurry. Skyline plays East at 7 pm. on December 13th.
