Skyline basketball fell 59-56 against Highland high school on Tuesday night. The loss comes after a strong start to the year at home against Hunter high school. Unfortunately Skyline took a stumble in their second home game of the year.
The problem for Skyline in the game was definitely not scoring from the charity stripe. The Eagles scored 20 points and shot almost 75%(20/24) from the line. The problem instead came on the defensive end of the court; Highland forward Elijah Shelton put up 17 points and was deadly from the free throw line. What killed the Eagles though was Oscar Maxfield’s 9 points and 2/3 3 point shooting off the bench.
Though Skyline is not the biggest team the points they put up came in the paint. Center Andrew Clark put up 23 points and looked deadly on the fast break, while Senior guard and captain Ben Knight put up a solid 17 points. The Player the Eagles missed in the box score however was Senior Guard Michael Vorwaller who was held to just 4 points after a fantastic showing against Hunter where he came up just shy of a triple double.
This game was not as close as the score suggests the first half offense for Skyline was basically free throw shooting. The Eagles lacked offensive movement and looked sluggish in the first half and were just never able to catch up to a Highland offense that moved the ball extremely well.
A short memory will be needed however as Skyline has a quick turnaround a game against Brighton tomorrow at 7 p.m.
