UMBC has done the impossible. Now number one seeds are 166-1. In a remarkably un remarkable first round this upset will ring through as what saved this tourney weekend as we haven’t gotten a ton of last second buzzer beating upsets yet. UMBC was lead by Jarius Lyles who put up 28 points and played through major pain in the second half.
This game was lost by Virginia though. The three ball would not fall for them. 18 percent from outside the Arc will never get you into a good place. This is just stunning because of the history behind it. It took so many years for a one seed to have a bad night and a sixteen seed to get hot, its just remarkable. UMBC will play Kansas State in the second round. While I will certainly not count UMBC out I will be very shocked if they make the sweet sixteen. Suddenly with no Arizona and no Virginia the South is wide open. So I will finish with the top 5 teams most likely to make it out of the south to the final four at this point.
1. Kentucky
2. Cincinnati
3. Kansas State
4. Chicago Loyola
5. Tennesee
