Friday August 12th Roger Dupaix Field-
A defensive coach yells “get the intensity up” last year the least of skylines worries was a lack of intensity. It spurred from the awful play of quarter back George Weeks and the knowledge it would just be another average season. That’s why on this crisp autumn night no longer does coach Justin Thompson control things with the headset. In his first unofficial game Zach Erickson stands by quarter back Andrew Hockman going over the gameplan for the skyline blue and gold scrimmage. Erickson has brought a feeling about the field a feeling not of monotony but of hope.
During the game the first thing noticeable is the Qaurter back play. Hockman has a good control of the offense and an even better pocket presence. Exemplified when he steps up in the pocket away from an aproachiing linebacker and connects with his receiver 30 yards down the field on the post route. Hockman will have like all high school college and pro Qaurterbacks all the pressure on him this year to bring Skyline a championship starved school a win at Rice Eccles Championship Stadium in February. Hockman a senior has the build of a shorter Cam Newton and is extremely hard to take down. After 4 years on the bench hes ready to explode onto the scene in a competitive division that contains teams like Murray, West, and Arch rivals Olympus.
Although Hockman is the key piece he will be accompanied by some amazing role players. Junior Briggs Binford and Brody Burke will provide the necessary fire power for the offense to soar through the air. Saione Matagi may be one of the most explosive high school backs I have ever seen play with a balanced running and passing attack skyline is sure to make massive gains on the offensive side of the football. While the defense looked extremely sharp getting to the passer several times and providing solid coverage, the offensive line looked even more dominate. If the the defensive line and linebackers can improve, and coach Erickson can make this team gel its going to be one hell of a year for the high flying Eagles of Skyline.
