This week the sports syllabus also takes on a favorite past time of mine, which is power rankings. The sports syllabus is a look in at some of the biggest games of the week in North American sports for the week. All times MT

NHL Power Rankings

  1. Boston Bruins: After a huge shootout win Monday the Bruins find themselves on the sports syllabus several times this week. Bruins Oilers Wednesday night qualifies as must watch and Bruins Canucks Saturday night is always a league favorite.
  2. Dallas Stars: Deep, the dictionary definition of it.  Steady goaltending and several marquee matchups this week including a showdown with the Rangers on Tuesday night.
  3. Vancouver Canucks: Adding Elias Lindholm really helped push this team even further towards juggernaut status.
  4. Edmonton Oilers: The Oilers stumble a bit after a crazy win streak but as long as they avoid losing streaks things will be fine for the Oilers.  The battle of Alberta and a showdown with the Bruins await Oil country.
  5. Florida Panthers: Quietly dangerous, with great goaltending and just hanging around the top of the league. They dominate the bad teams, that’s a strong sign.
  6. New York Rangers
  7. Colorado Avalanche
  8. Vegas Golden Knights
  9. Winnipeg Jets
  10. Toronto Maple Leafs

Uconn continues to defend the notion they are the best team in the country and the best team in the Big East. Mountain West showdowns for bubble teams. Arizona must defend at home and stop red hot Washington State which is one of the best stories in basketball. SEC showdown between a Kentucky team that has struggled to keep momentum and an Alabama team that has something to prove as we hurtle towards March.
