Back at it, short sweet and to the point, my takeaways on Super Wild Card Weekend.
Packers-Cowboys: Jordan Love is special. Just no other way around it, the guy looks like a carbon copy of Aaron Rodgers but with a bigger arm and more mobility. He’s played three perfect games in a row and continues to cruise. Not to mention the unreal young wideout talent the Packers now boast as well. Christian Watson is now an after thought after looking like he’d be the 1 at the end of last year.
This year Dontavian Wix, Jaylen Reed and Romeo Doubs have absolutely dominated. Things look extra bright for the Packer’s offensive group. With the added bonus that Aaron Jones remains a top tier NFL running back now even 8-plus years into his career.
The Cowboys are the Cowboys, we saw this coming and yet it was still a hilarious collapse. Dak probably should not be traded, but if he is, it will not be in the least bit surprising. Super Wild Card weekend is a unique and new level of Cowboys embarrassment that saw a team full of special talent bounced before the game even started practically.
Is Bill Belichick the answer? Maybe, maybe not. Would Jerry Jones step aside to allow that? Who knows, but the man is turning 82, if he wants a title within his life time serious organizational changes need to come.
Lions Rams: What a time to be alive, the first Lions win in over a half-century in the playoffs. This is why we love sports, a lifetime, Lions fans have waited a lifetime for this moment. Is it a Super Bowl? No.
But man oh man, it is still pretty sweet. The moment of joy collectively for the city of Detroit, a true American city, and a city built on American grit finally has a team that is reflective of that grit.
The Lions got here by biting kneecaps. They got here by bullying defensive lines, dominating Aaron Donald, and running the football.
They also got here because Jared Goff went from game manager to no doubt top ten NFL QB this year, a year nowhere short of magical.
Goff dominated for stretches this season and came to play when it mattered most in this the biggest of games. Goff put up 277 yards and a touchdown in the win but dominated, made smart decisions and pretty throws. It’s hard to understate how massive of an add he was for this franchise and how wonderful of a story he is.
A career left for dead, only to be adopted by 8-Mile and turned into the King of Detroit, Eminem would be proud.
Rapid Fire Rest of the weekend.
- The Chiefs man, did they just fool us again? Rashee Rice looks like a stud and Patrick Mahomes remains in conversation for best playoff QB of all time.
- Josh Allen is an alien, my favorite QB, and a guy whose jersey I need,
- We missed Joe Burrow in these playoffs but we replaced him with CJ Stroud, a guy with Burrow-esque poise and a magnificent arm. The AFC arms race, no pun intended, just got a new contender.
- Elite defenses are a myth.
- What a fun year it’s been for Baker, we got the 8 best QBs in divisonal weekend. Let’s roll.
