The Viewing Guide, European Football Edition.

I love football. All forms of football including European Football. So occasionally from time to time, when I have a free moment I will be putting up a European Football viewing guide for the week. This happens to be a good week to do so, so let’s get this edition of the viewing guide underway.

England

Aston Villa @ Crystal Palace 8 a.m. MT Saturday, August 20th.

After an impressive draw at Anfield for Palace earlier in the week, they take on the Villians. This is a Villa team coming off a gritty and impressive 2-1 win over Everton earlier in the week. Villa will be in the relegation race for most of the year so getting off to a hot start is crucial. Palace is a team still finding itself but a good year could see them challenge for the top 7.

Chelsea @ Leeds United 7 a.m. MT Sunday, August 21st.

Chelsea are coming off a heartbreaking draw, and a game that got manager Thomas Tuchel went hard after refereeing decisions. Meanwhile Leeds United is essentially a team made up of MLS LEGENDS, if you like American soccer, you want to be watching Leeds this year. Jack Harrison had a beautiful assist last week.

Italy

Lecce @ Sassuolo 12:45 p.m. MT Saturday, August 20th.

Lecce are coming off an impressive loss against top flight side Inter Milan. Sassuolo, or Sassy boys as I like to call them, provide the first real test Lecce will face. This will be a game to determine just how good Lecce are and if they’re ready for a return to top-flight Italian soccer.

AC Milan @ Atalanta 12:45 p.m. MT Sunday, August 21st.

Styles make fights. These two styles just play so well, if you want wide-open, pacey, attacking football this game is for you. Atalanta is a spunky underdog that has found there way into becoming a tier two, and at points veering into a tier one team in Italy. Meanwhile, Milan is the best of the best and one of the favorites to win the league title.

Germany

Freiburg @ VFB Stuttgart 7:30 a.m. MT Saturday, August 20th.

Freiburg is one of the most fascinating teams in the whole of the Bundesliga this year, it looked as though they may hold their own against top side Dortmund last weekend and came up just short allowing three goals in the last half of play. Bundesliga games are always exciting, do I know a lot about the league? No, but it’s never a bad idea to just throw on a random game at seven in the morning and watch the fireworks that ensue.

Bayern Munich @ Bochum 9:30 a.m. MT Sunday, August 21st

Jamal Musiala, that’s just a name to know. A player who may be one of the brightest young stars in all of world football is off to a flying start this year. He’s also the person in the featured pic of this story that looks like he is but a 12-year-old boy. Fear not though, this young star is beginning to play like a man. Bayern are the only team in Europe I have an allegiance to, so yes, most of the time they will find themselves on this list. Plus they just play fun, creative, attacking, football.

Spain and France may get mentions in other weeks but nothing in Spain jumps off the page to me this week, I also just don’t watch as much of that.

French soccer, frauds, all of ’em. Undeniably fake football. Note: This take will change if Ligue 1 ever becomes readily available to stream in these United States of America, but for now, Frauds, all of you. PSG can’t win nothing.

See you next week for the next edition of the viewing guide.
