Week 9 Quick Hitter: Utah Takes on Washington State

Editors note

The football season is long, thank you for allowing me a BYE week. You can expect the move back to more regular blogging hours now. Thank you to my five readers, I truly adore you, and you have my heart.

Utah

Utes off a BYE? I like the odds of that. This team hardly if ever loses coming off the BYE. The last time we saw them play the offense was putting up the best performance of the season.

I expect to see more of the same from that side of the ball. If Cam Rising wants to be an NFL QB, he needs to string together five really stellar weeks of play. It all starts tonight for his draft prospects. This is the stretch run.

It doesn’t appear he will have much help in the backfield. When Tavion Thomas doesn’t play the Utes running production flat out disappears. The team is slightly rudderless on the ground without Thomas and his status with the team and the program for that matter seems to be very up in the air if you follow the reporting. Which by the way, Kyle Whittingham has largely shut down any time he’s asked about it, so who knows?

The defense looks average at best and the pass rush when bringing four is pedestrian. This is just something the Utes will have to live through in this new iteration of the team. Expect a better performance against a Washington State team that has slowed in the past few weeks.

This will test what Utah has to offer the rest of the way. Can the offense stay this explosive? Only time will tell.

More on BYU tomorrow.
