The problem with going undefeated is everyone wants to beat you. The more you win the harder it gets. That’s the case with Kentucky everyone wants to beat them. The problem is no one can seem to beat them every game the analysts say if you play with no mistakes you can beat Kentucky. The problem Kentucky makes everyone make mistakes. There huge a height average of 6’8 (sports illustrated) and they can jump the best rebounding in the country no one can get second chances on these guys. They simply do not make mistakes they don’t miss the basket and from outside of the arch there they are 76%. So how do you beat Kentucky a recent sports illustrated article asked and answered. Saying possession and crowding the lane. One more I add rebounds you cannot let Kentucky get rebounds offensively or defensively.
So who can do this? Who can catch Kentucky here are my top ten teams that could upset UK. 10 lowest to 19 highest chance.
- Kansas they have the potential to put up more points and control the tempo. But there bench is not nearly as deep as Kentucky.
- Northern Iowa This team is extremely good at controlling pace and keeping rebounds to a minimum. There problem is a lack of experience though.
- Villanova only two losses and about the same strength of schedule the only reason they aren’t higher is because Villanova itself is supposed to lose first.
- Unc if they can find some kind of depth other than Marcus Paige they do everything right to catch the cats.
- Harvard this may surprise you but watching the tape looking at the stats and the conference they play in if Harvard can upset Wisconsin they can make a run. And then they do everything right to beat Calaparis squad.
- Wichita State this team is hungry for revenge after losing last year in the sweet sixteen to Kentucky if anyone has the desire its them. Wichita did not lose many players either so it’s a veteran squad.
- Notre Dame These guys are incredible. The more you delve into Irish basketball the more you think. Why aren’t these guys the 2 seed? They run the court very well and have a super solid defense that crowds the lane. If anyone could pull the biggest upset of the century it would be Notre dame. They would rank higher if they had more depth.
- Duke One reason COACH K. perhaps one of the best if not the best college bball coach. Coach K has the players and depth they need they just need to be more consistent in tourney play.
- Arizona/Virginia These teams are pretty much identical id say that Virginia just edges out Arizona though because they play in a tougher conference.
- WISCONSIN Frank Kaminsky and the boys just have the fire power and defense to beat Kentucky maybe this is an exercise in futility but if anyone can clip these cats well……. Its Wisconsin.
