Weekend Recap: Utah State Wins But How Long Can The Aggies Keep Playing Like This?

From here to the end of the football season, each Monday, a weekend recap 300-700 words on the weekend that was in the football world. Let’s begin.

Weekend Recap: FOOTBALL IS BACK!

We did it. We made it folks, football season is here, rejoice. You now have an excuse to ditch your problems, your social life, your love life, and your family for the next six months. It truly is a beautiful thing.

I no longer have to worry about “Self-improvement” or “Excersize” (jk I am still going to the gym this season, and walking a lot of walking, I’m about to be jacked.)

I no longer have to deal with the depressing realities of Bumble and soul-sucking dating apps. My one and only true love has returned, football. Ah, how nice it is to be back with my baby girl. Let’s jump right in shall we?

Utah State

How long can the Aggies keep doing this? I mean, seriously, you can’t be down 14-0 going into the second quarter and still win by double digits every week right?

Well, it seems Blake Anderson has been able to put just that formula together. Listening to him on the radio, he certainly doesn’t like the fact it appears his team doesn’t know how to play football in the first quarter of games but hey wins are wins.

The questions about Utah State’s receiving core are greatly exaggerated at this point it seems. Brian Cobbs looks like an absolute Mountain West star. A crisp route runner with fantastic hands. Kyle Vanleeuwen also looks like an emerging contributor and oh yeah, that Justin McGriff fellow remains very good.

The questions persist on defense, like do Utah States corners actually know how to play corner?

Aside from a six sack day from Gurvan Hall, who plays safety, the defensive line didn’t get much pressure and also did a really terrible job of stopping the run.

Uconn put up 245 yards on the ground. That just isn’t a great day for any defensive line group.

Ahead lies Alabama, do the Aggies have a shot in that game, no, no they do not. That said 40 points is an absolutely massive number for the Crimson tide to cover so if I were a betting man, I would go heavy on any number that looks like USU +40 or more.

Blake Anderson is a good coach, his team is never going to be beaten by 40 points.

That’s it shorter column this week, back in week one. While I have you here, check out my podcast in which I’ll be heavily covering football in the state of Utah and the NFL this year. Check it out.
