The Broncos will attack Roster needs through Free Agency

The plan for the Broncos according to new HC Vance Joeseph this off season is to fill the teams needs through free agency. The Broncos have 31 million dollars in cap space to spend this off season which isn’t bad. What makes the strategy Joeseph has put in place dangerous is that the Free Agent market this year is weaker than it has ever been. If the Broncos do go the free agency route though here are five free agents its worth targeting.

  1. Kevin Zietler: The Bengals guard earned second team all pro honors on PFFs team. At 26 years old Zietler is the best O line guy in this free agency class and will be paid big money.
  2. TJ Lang: The Packers Guard played fantastically through the playoffs giving Rodgers more time than any QB in the playoffs. The minus is Langs age at 29 he is probably one or two years away from a sharp decline but with Denver’s success on D I could see Lang getting to Denver for a relatively fair price.
  3. Rick Wagner: The Ravens Tackle will cost money north of 10 million a year but giving Trevor Simiean a quality tackle could pay dividends.
  4. Martellus Bennett: Bill Belicheck doesn’t like players who ask for big time raises like Bennett. A top tier tight end who can block and receive. If John Elway wants to make a splash for a weapon hell go after Bennett.
  5. Barry Church: The Cowboys safety would add some nice depth to an already stacked defense.

The Broncos have a luxury of a 20th pick this year the other and better option I believe is to build through the draft. Wisconsin T Ryan Ramcxyk is a talented tackle and if the Broncos could grab Wagner and Zeitler that offense would tick again.

It’s a bad idea not to trust John Elway when it comes to free agency but the Broncos need to retain their own talent before making a big free agent splash like signing hall of famer Demarcus Ware. The Broncos are reportedly trying to meet with Victor Cruz, bad idea Cruz is aging and injury prone and the Broncos have plenty of depth at wide out already. If Walker wants to go all out in Free agency he needs to do it right and get two top 25 free agents. If I were him id go after guards in free agency and fill the tackle spot through the draft.
