Why the Cousins trade is good for everyone involved, well almost

The Sacramento Kings may be better off rebuilding. This weekend the Kings traded all star big man Demarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans for notably Buddy Hield and a first round draft pick. While some say this trade robbed the Kings i tend to lean the other way i think the kings are better off without Boogie.

The number one reason for that belief is that Cousins is in a contract year. After next season he will be a free agent and all signs pointed to him ditching the Kings. This is one reason why this trade makes sense. Instead of losing Cousins and getting nothing now the Kings have two good draft picks and several excellent backcourt pieces to move around and start the rebuild with. People will forget all about this trade if Hield can improve, which i believe he will, and the kings can hit on one of these two first round draft picks this June. This is the way to go this is how you build a core if you’re a rebuilding team.

Cousins was also a problem for Sacramento. It is well known that he and gm Vlade Divac have not gotten along well in the past two years. If Cousins was becoming a problem in the building it was probably worth getting rid of him.

This trade is good for the league. After years of lackluster trade deadline action finally we get a big super star trade. Even if it comes at the cost of Vlade Divac and his job this makes the league more fun. Look what Davis has done in All star games when he’s surrounded with talent.

The bottom line is this, this was not a bad trade. Well……. Thats the grey area. This is a good trade for the Kings Locker room, for the league, for a Kings rebuild. It’s not a good trade for Vlade Divac who probably should be fired on the spot. Yes thats a rough way to end an article but in the cutthroat NBA that’s just the way it is.
